TRADE NEWS

Edgar Gold has moved to Los Angeles headquarters to take over his new post as assistant to L. B. Eastman who is partner and general sales manager for Theodor of California. Thomas Bake-well, who managed the Joyce, Inc. office in New York City until two years ago, has taken over Mr. Gold's former position. Mr. Bakewell recently returned from Europe where he was engaged in an import-export business.

Products trademarked by Theodor include materials developed and used by them in their bags.

E00141:Theodor of California made this unusual matte red leather in a trademarked Softglow aniline dyed full grain cowhide that resists scratches. The original hang tag is present and is consistent with the bag’s unused condition. Metal zippers with leather pulls secure the contents of the larger front pocket and the cavernous black taffeta lined interior with its gold-corded open interior pockets. The Theodor round logo is faintly visible on the zipper stop of the center section. There is a ½ x ½” vague discoloration at the lower back, probably from thoughtlessly place adhesive label (see detail,) but the condition otherwise pristine. Ample enough for daily needs. Measures 9 ½ x 3 ¼ x 9 ¾ with double 12 ½” leather covered cord handles.

The bag is available for sale for $85 at The Bag Lady Emporium.

The January 1955 issue of Handbags & Accessories helps date this bag ca. 1955.

B00303: Cool Sage Green Theodore of California handbag. The pearly vinyl is called “Tempra” and was a Theodore exclusive. A thick white Lucite trim is contoured over the gold lift-up latch. The interior is fully lined in black taffeta with one large metal zip pocket. There a ¼” tears near the hinge in the gusset area (see detail). They have been stabilized. Measures 10 ¼ x 2 ¾ x 9 ¼” with 13” handle.

The bag is available for sale for $45 at The Bag Lady Emporium.
